Europe's Execution Era Has Arrived
The question has persisted for years - is it possible to scale a truly global tech company in Europe at speeds that allow us to compete with the best around the world?
At Antler, as inception investors focused on the great people behind successful companies, we have analysed 3,400 founders of 900 unicorns in Europe and the US, alongside 60,000 founders who applied to Antler in the past five years.
The data reveals a fundamental shift.
90% of European unicorn founders since 2022 are technical, compared to 80% in the US. For the first time in history, Europe is producing a higher proportion of technical founders than Silicon Valley—a quantum leap from the meagre 26% of European unicorn founders who were technical pre-2020.
European "rocketships"—companies founded since 2020 that have already achieved unicorn status—are reaching that milestone in just 2 years, compared to the traditional European average of 7.2 years.

The AI Acceleration Effect
The driving force? AI has fundamentally altered the competitive landscape. 93% of companies in our European portfolio report that AI has allowed them to execute faster than ever before. Today, 85% of companies use AI to build their MVPs, compared to just 30% five years ago.
This levels the playing field entirely. European startups now reach first revenue 3x faster and generate 5-10x more revenue in their first year compared to companies founded just three years ago.
What This Means for European Tech
Far from being left behind, European founders are now setting the standard through capital efficiency and execution speed. But significant challenges remain, and the opportunities ahead could define the future of European tech.
Our full research reveals the complete transformation story, the specific strategies driving this acceleration, and the execution playbook that successful European founders are using to compete globally.
