FAQs

What is Antler?

Antler is the investor backing the world's most driven founders, from day zero to greatness. We provide a global platform where entrepreneurs can find their co-founders, have a deep business model validation, and access to a global network of experts. Companies built inside our residency programs may receive Antler's investment in exchange for a small percentage of the business.

Is Antler a business accelerator?

No, Antler is not a business accelerator. Accelerators receive built and mature companies and then make them go through a business model validation. We select entrepreneurs and visionary people so they can, with our support, build high-scalable startups.

Is Antler a Venture Builder?

No, Antler is not a Venture Builder. Venture Builders have a specific focus, looking for an industry of their choice, besides selecting the founding team and having control of the companies built inside their operations. We are agnostic of industries, and the startups that are developed through our residency programs are 100% founder-owned, without any Antler interference in the team building.

What is Antler’s residency program?

Antler’s residency program is a 10-week entirely in-person immersion, where 60+ potential founders spend a lot of time together. It is a unique innovation environment with people that share the same objective of becoming a startup founder. This group of entrepreneurs will dive into our global methodology for business creation and validation, increase their professional network, and potentially receive a pre-seed investment during this period.

What kind of support can I expect from Antler during the residency program?

You will receive Antler's support to generate and validate your business's ideas. We have our methodology for a deep business model validation, which uses a lot of exercises and workshops for anyone that wants to build a startup from the ground. Potentially, you will receive pre-seed investment from Antler so yo can boost your company's growth.

Which profile of founders is Antler looking for?

Most importantly, Antler is looking for talented, driven, and resilient people. Antler wants to back those that are willing to go the extra mile to create businesses capable of bringing progress and innovation to society. We are looking for individuals that are 100% certain of the decision of becoming a startup founder, even if they don’t have an idea for a business.

What is the profile of the group of founders in each residency program?

Each residency program has a different profile picture of founders. However, Antler’s scouting team has an active effort of selecting a balanced set of exceptional professionals. Our main goal is to have all types of founders, including business operators, industry specialists, PhDs, and technology experts.

Is the program in person or remote?

Antler Brazil's residency program is fully in person. We are based out of Sao Paulo (SP).

How long is Antler's residency program?

Antler Brazil's residency program has two phases, with a 6-month duration. During the first phase, which takes 10 weeks, the main objective is to form teams, validate ideas, and create new businesses. The startups that are approved by our Investment Committee will receive a pre-seed investment in exchange for a small percentage of the business. Only the selected teams go to the next phase and have access to our global platform.

I already have a founding team. Can I apply?

Yes, you can apply for Antler’s residency program. However, your startup project has to be in an early stage of development without any previous investors on the cap table. Besides that, the majority of the founding team must be fully in person in Sao Paulo (SP) during the 10-week period of our program.

Does Antler afford anything for the selected founders?

In Antler, selected founders don’t have to pay anything for applying and securing a slot in our residency program. As the program is entirely in-person, founders need to be in Sao Paulo for at least 10 weeks, if they want to participate in it. We are not responsible for affording accommodations, transportation, and other expenses for any of the selected founders. However, in specific cases, which are analyzed by the Antler team, we can concede grants covering some costs.

How many residency programs does Antler have per year?

We expect to have at least two residency programs per year.

How is Antler’s investment process?

Antler is a global venture capital platform known for creating its own pipeline of investments. In order to back exceptional founders at the beginning of their journeys, Antler designed and launched its residency program, where driven and resilient entrepreneurs can create their own startups with our day-zero support. The most promising startups that originated in the program can receive a pre-seed investment from Antler to scale their new businesses.

What is Antler's investment thesis?

Antler is agnostic to industries and economic segments. Our investments are grounded in the profile of the founding team and also in the market opportunity presented to us.

How can I get a pre-seed investment from Antler?

In our residency program, after you formed a founding team and validated your business idea, you will have the chance to present your startup to our Investment Committee. If your business is approved by our Investment Committee, you will secure a pre-seed investment from Antler.

What size is Antler’s pre-seed investment?

Our pre-seed investment is standardized for each residency program. Therefore, every residency program has its own size of check. The calculation of the valuation for every startup that originated in our program is based on macroeconomic conditions.
