What if India could build its own Boeing?

‍

A Bengaluru aerospace startup is building pilotless seaplanes to carry cargo too heavy for drones and too small for freighters, with its first aircraft already through ground and taxi tests.

Khushi is one of those founders who makes you rethink what ambition means. As a child of eight or ten, she often flew alone and wondered who made the planes. The answer she got: no one in India. That left an itch. She raced drones competitively across North America, left her degree at the University of Alberta to go deeper into autonomy at Stanford, and then did something we deeply admire. She came back to India to build an airplane.

‍
The gap she spotted is obvious once she points it out. Drones carry a few kilos, freighters carry tonnes, and almost nothing affordable carries the medicine, spare parts and fresh catch in between. Her first aircraft lands on water as easily as on a runway, with no one in the cockpit at all.

‍
She has moved at the speed of someone who has waited her whole life for this. A hangar in Hoskote. An aircraft already through its first ground and taxi tests. And Sri Lanka's aviation authorities offering land, an airport and a waterdrome for her to build there. Picture it: pilotless seaplanes as ordinary as delivery vans, and India among the handful of countries that design their own aircraft.
