Global Call for Startups 2025: Announcing the Winners Driving Food System Transformation
Stockholm, September 3, 2025 – Global Call for Startups, an initiative introduced in the lead up to the forthcoming 2025 EAT-Lancet Commission Report, today announced the five winners of its 2025 competition. The initiative identifies and supports early-stage ventures that embed sustainability from the outset, focusing on startups that integrate health, environment, and food justice into their core business models.
From a global applicant pool, five winners were selected for solutions addressing key challenges such as reducing chemical inputs, cutting food waste, developing sustainable ingredients, improving accessibility, and encouraging healthier consumer choices. The final evaluation was carried out with the involvement of a jury of leading investors and industry executives, among them Gustaf Brandberg, Venture Capitalist at Gullspång Invest; Diana Orembe, Founder of NovFeed, a biotechnology startup in Tanzania upcycling market waste into protein-rich fish feed and microbial fertilizer; and Claire Smith, Venture Capitalist at Beyond Impact VC and three world-class scientists from the EAT-Lancet commission.
“From smarter farming to healthy and sustainable ingredients and less food waste, these innovators are reshaping the future of food,” said Dr. Gunhild Stordalen, Founder and Executive Chair of EAT.
The winners of Global Call for Startups 2025 are:
- BioPrime Agri Solutions (India) – Biological crop solutions that improve yields while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
- DE3PBIO (USA) – AI- and data-powered precision fermentation platform for sustainable next-generation ingredients.
- Farm to Feed (Kenya) – A digital marketplace connecting smallholder farmers with buyers to reduce food loss and waste and increase access to nutritious food
- InstaCrops (Chile) – An AI-powered agronomic platform that integrates sensors, satellite data, and virtual crop advisors to optimize irrigation, boost yields, and make farming more resilient.
- Remy AI (UK) – Kitchen Inventory and Smart Recipe Assistant that reduces food waste and encourages responsible shopping behavior while promoting healthy eating.
The winners will present their solutions at the Stockholm Food Forum, convened by EAT on October 3–4, and attended by scientists, policymakers, and representatives from the food industry. On October 2, they will also participate in Norrsken House Stockholm’s Pitch Night meeting with investors, experts, and entrepreneurs across the food system.
To support the winners, EAT has partnered with Antler, Norrsken Foundation, and Katapult—three global organizations dedicated to investing in and enabling early-stage innovation—providing access to tailored resources, investor networks, and strategic collaboration opportunities.
