Doorstep.ai raises USD 8M seed to solve last-mile fraud & boost efficiency
NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2025—Doorstep.ai, a startup that provides precision tracking software for delivery platforms, today announced it has raised an $8 million seed round led by Canaan Partners, with participation from Antler, Paul Allen’s Family Office Cercano Management, Cassius, and Kleiner Perkins Scout Sean Henry. As part of the investment, Hrach Simonian, General Partner at Canaan, will join Doorstep’s board of directors. Simonian brings over two decades of venture experience from having advised multiple companies from Seed to IPO stage, including leading the Seed round for Instacart in 2012.
Doorstep.ai runs on a driver’s smartphone and integrates with existing delivery apps, using built-in sensors to record movements indoors with sub-5m accuracy. The system tracks when drivers enter a building, take an elevator or staircase, reach a floor, and complete a delivery at a doorstep. Unlike GPS, which often fails inside buildings, the technology creates a verifiable timeline that platforms can use to automate dispute resolution and delivery validation.
Nearly half of consumer fraud in last-mile delivery - over 48% - comes from false refunds or “item not delivered” claims. On top of that, 5–10% of deliveries fail outright, with each failed order costing at least $17.20. At that rate, any major delivery platform is losing billions of dollars every year - at a minimum. Together, these issues cost platforms billions across the U.S., eroding trust and reducing customer lifetime value. With delivery volumes growing and platforms expanding into higher-value categories such as electronics and healthcare, reducing fraud and improving efficiency has become a top priority.
Doorstep.ai’s system is live across most U.S. states and can support over 160 million doorsteps nationwide. “Doorstep aims to be the industry gold standard for proof of delivery - taking it a step further to “proof of doorstep”, said Shashwat Murarka, Founder & CEO of Doorstep.ai. “We chose to tackle one of the hardest problems in logistics because solving it creates an outsized impact - not just for delivery platforms and carriers, but for drivers, merchants, and customers. We’ve talked with every top on-demand delivery company, regional and national carrier, and we’re going deep with a few - we’ll go public with our customers in time.”
“Refund fraud and delivery failures cost platforms billions every year, and current tools simply can’t provide the visibility needed inside buildings,” said Hrach Simonian of Canaan Partners. “Doorstep’s approach - hardware-free, highly accurate, and built for scale - is exactly what the market needs. Shash and the team have the domain expertise and relentless drive to define a new category in last-mile delivery. We’re thrilled to back them.”
